i'm... too sexy for my self...
"would you write a different number if i told you that at home it's 163??" i pleaded. nope. 168. she wouldn't even compromise and put 165, which i think is TOTALLY fair, btw..
the funny thing about this is that 3 people in the past month have told me that i don't LOOK 168..
great, i look thinner than i actually am... i guess i should be excited, but for some reason, i'm not.
the cool thing is that my fat-ness is at 33% of my body, which means that i am only 2% into the "unhealthy" zone. julie the trainer says that 2% should be easy to lose. which is why earlier this year i was at the exact same weight, with the same body fat ratio.
with smoking (hopefully) kicked, i think i am ready to move forward and start going to the cycling (i prefer to call them psychoing) sessions. 60 min of crazy people madly pedaling themselves to nowhere. in a group to lose 700 calories.
it's on!

the blue skies
i missed class on monday and had a 6 hr talk with the X.. we opened up about a lot of things we have been hesitant to share in the past, and it was nice to communicate with him. while i still think that i made the best decision for myself, there was a part of me that missed being able to talk openly with him. i hope this lasts - sometimes i still want to hog-tie him and ship him off to china...
i have about 6 months of school left and i can't wait to get out of the "drama club"... my school is like a friggin' soap opera with all the teachers screwing the students, and the students screwing the students, and cheating and fights over non assigned seating stealing. ugh, this weekend i'm going to go to home depot and buy some earplugs. we are without a teacher so often and it drives me buggy to have to listen to everyone talking LOUDLY and i can't hear myself think.
i have been smoke free for over 3 weeks now, (except for monday with mr. X- i had 4 that day...) and it has been tough on my gravitational pull towards the earth. i am going back to the gym fairly regularly and it is nice. i pulled a neck muscle, over-worked my forearms to the point that i couldn't extend my arms for about 4 days, and somehow pinched a nerve for a little bit in my hip area. it is a wonderful reminder of how i am getting old(er) and need to train my body so that i can chase my grandchildren one of these days...
i was wondering the other day -
why do people tilt their heads to their right when they kiss? is it because most people are right-handed? do left handed people feel awkward when they kiss "to the right"? perhaps it has something to do with our environment being mostly right-handed, i.e. driving on the right side of the road, putting our names on the top right corner of our papers, signing in the bottom right corner of our checks... huh. if that's true, does it imply that people in england kiss to the left?
i am longing for my ipod, but am resolved to wait until i am working and "rolling in the dough" before i purchase another one. this time i think i will opt for the black one, because my last white one was looking a wee bit dirty. in the mean time, i am enjoying burning music and importing it into my itunes library. my old cds that are originals i have been donating to the public library, and it is a nice feeling to be able to give, at no cost to myself other than a bit of my time.
i was hoping to go to magic mountain tomorrow with a friend, but it was cancelled because he developed a mean case of diarrhea (just kidding). plans have been postponed to january, i hope it isn't raining.
i visited with a friend whom i have not seen for some time. she looks good and i was the lucky recipient of an amazing massage.
the baby goats are doing well, and #4 has her first loose tooth. it's only a little wiggly and probably won't come out for months... and yet she still refuses to let me pull it out with some pliers. hee, hee.. me and they brood joked about the time #2 had a really loose tooth. we were at k-mart and he went on and on about how it was bothering him - the jagged edges of the root of the tooth were poking his gums. it was way overdue of a good yank. daniel wouldn't let me touch it, so i instructed him to wiggle it himself so he could see how ready to come out this tooth was. when he got a grip on it, i tapped his elbow and he popped his tooth out on his own. he was soooo happy for all of one second until he realized i made it come out, then he yelled, "mom!!"
sigh, i would shrink him down to three again if i could.

spare change?

his initials "RAB" are under the profile that has this subtle smile, and the year he made it, 1984, is imprinted on the back.
it is very heavy, about the size of a dollar coin, but maybe 3x as thick as a quarter
some dusty things
one of the things that were in the little treasures i brought home was some sort of savings bond or other gov't note. i decided to scan it. the paper has a nice weight to it, and it seems authentic. wouldn't it be neat if i could find the descendants (i don't think it belongs to my family line - just a feeling) and pass it along?
what would you do if someone gave you a $1000, 166 yr-old matured note? from your great-great-great-great granddad?
i'd buy some chickens!

dork-a-licious it is, obi-wan...
i am in the process of converting my itunes library into MP3 format, so that i can squash a bunch of albums onto one cd, and therefore have a lot more storage space for my music.
when i first got my ipod, a good friend of mine was kind enough to talk/walk me through the computer process of an ipod, and there was a lot of stressing on my part because i am terrified of computers. they always seem to have something wrong with them and in some sort of process of breaking down.
for some reason (mikshir, would you like to chime in??), everything was imported into my itunes as mpeg4 which is not as user friendly as mp3 format. now that i realize that mp3 is "better" and makes more sense, i now have to convert a lot of the files so that i can compile them better. and so here's the thing i have discovered (maybe mikshir already knows...) that i HATE about itunes:
- if you have imported anything purchased from itunes in as mpeg4, you are now screwed (unless you know someone that can rectify this, hint, hint.). i tried to convert the mpeg4 files into mp3 format, and itunes won't let me do this because "the files are protected". this sucks, because i was going to put all my jack johnson albums into one folder and burn it, but i can't now.
and in the weirdest way, i feel cheated. i feel tricked. i feel like a knucklehead who should've known better. sigh. what is in store for me and itunes? if this romance going to last? is there hope for some sort of reconciliation? i think that on some level, i will, in time, be able to forgive itunes for this, but i still feel that it's a little unfair. is it not enough that they have my money, my time spent organizing, uploading, and listening to my beloved music and audiobooks in their pricey fomat? am i going to have to freaking repurchase my music so that i can burn in mp3?? who put the bop in the bop shoo bop?!?
This ass-wiping is taking TOO LONG!!!
my third rotation is officially over. nights suck, but the pay kicks ass, and i find it odd that i went on to last night's shift with four hrs sleep, and i'm super wide awake. (one cup of magically delicious coffee) i have a feeling i just might pass out in lotus' car later. (we're supposed to go to this buddhist cult camp later this morning..) hopefully she will park her car in the garage so i won't cook in the daytime sun...
SURVEY SAYS!!:
trauma is drama. tonight i saw a young (model-catalog looking) couple sitting together on a gurney in one of the open aisles in the ER. he's sandy blonde wearing a white 70's tux/john travolta suit with big blue lapels. she's brunette wearing a matching white dress, the hem of the dress so short, when she sat on the gurney, the dress hitched up so high i could see her panty line between the slit. oh yeah, and her tits were about to fall out the middle of shirt. they are both crying pathetically.
HIM: "but there were like 10 police cars and like 10 ambulances there and no one could get you to wake up. and how was i supposed to feel then? what was i supposed to do then?"
HER: whimpering sounds. wipes her eyes.
HIM: "let's get going..."
they get up and head out, and word was that she drank too much and passed out cold. they looked so silly walking down the hallway to leave with those ridiculous matching outfits on, hope it was worth the 1k ambulance "cab ride" to the hospital...
i have a fast growing (as in to the expotential power) list of people who are NOT allowed to stick, poke, prod, suction, or install anything in me. which pretty much means i'm gonna have to go to the other side of the world for health care...
a 500 lb (don't leave out the 7 ounces) woman who should've had gastric bypass surgery a long long long time ago. omg the stench of the underside of her belly was nauseauting as i lifted this giant mass with both hands and then had to hold the flap up with one arm, and then PULL up ANOTHER mass with my other hand, and THEN DO THIS AGAIN just to expose the underside of her belly so it could be cleaned. she had skin ulcers and lesions everywhere. it took five of us to roll her back and forth on her bed so that we could clean her fecal matter up and change her sheets.
and one of the toppers: SHOGUN - DO NOT READ!!!
a woman whose motor cycle fell on her left leg (common incident, btw..). she was pinned and tried to pull her leg out from under the bike. she ended up dislocating her left foot AND ripping open her flesh, about 4 inches. when we came into the room to sedate her, the leg bone was NOT connected to the ankle bone, but rather jutting out through this gash. after about 15 min in the room assisting, i thought, "fucking a... it is gonna suck big, hairy elephantitis balls if i pass out in this itty-bitty room because i sure as fuck am feeling a little queasy.." at that moment one doc held her shin in place and bent her knee while the other pulled hard on her foot to realign the bones and set that puppy back in place. when the reconnection made this curious, vacuum-like, squishy sound, i knew it was over for me.
i very quietly excused myself from the room, turned left twice, went into a bathroom, locked the door, and almost passed out. sit down. felt better. ok, now worse... my, that floor looks like it really wants me to take a little nap on it. but wow, the toilet is seductively beckoning me to hurl everything in my stomach into it. the very contemplation of whether to lay on the floor and pass out, or ralph in the toilet gave me just enough distraction to get a little blood flowing, and i felt immediately better. nothin like a little shock to wake one up at two forty-five am. i actually felt a little invigorated when the blood started circulating through my head again. when i looked in the mirror, i was horrified - i was a sickly yellowish grey color.. blech.
ummm, i think i saw about ten to fifteen packages of "pork & beans" than i'd rather not have..
one baby c-sectioned. got a little light headed when the docs just aggressively cut away at mom to extract baby.
i was assisting in a retaping of an intubation tube.. the patient was totally out, but still had some reflexes. the RT who i was assisting is kind of an idiot, but he knows his RT shit. anyway, as i was retaping, the patient's hand went up in the air and towards his mouth. the RT says to the patient, "it's ok, man. she doesn't need your help. thanks anyway." i was caught off guard and had to stiffle my laugh for the rest of the taping. that was at about four am this morning, i get a little giggly when i'm tired.
and believe it or not, there are some dull moments...

grumble grumble
- drivers that use thier left turn signal to change lanes to the right.
- oh, and sore feet and lower back because i'm still not used to sitting in crappy chairs all night
- getting the munchies at 2 am.
- having to talk to other people who have morning breath.
- getting lost in thought on monotonous drive home and snap out of it not knowing what time of day it is, nor where i'm headed.
ah yes, and the all time fav:
- getting off 2 hrs early, getting home to find al the good spots on the street taken, and then having a spot open up right in front of my house as i walk inside.

down the rabbit hole
the night before i hardly slept - 3 1/2 hours. i went to bed at midnight, woke at 2 am. tossed-turned-got water-checked the house-used the toilet and finally asleep again at 3:30. it was hard getting up at 5 for clinicals. which is why i turned on the lamp on my nightstand and then hid under the covers for twenty minutes before rolling out of bed.
i seriously considered "calling in sick"... i'd have to make the hours up sometime at the end of my school year. no, no. must save sick days for when i'm actually sick. plus the four little ones are probably going to take up some of that time as well this winter.
damn-a-damn. ok. i guess i'll get up.
i'm not crazy about one of my instructors at my current hospital. she very opinionated, which i really don't mind (i think most of us are), but it's in this cocky, abrasive sort of way. we were given 6 patients to take care of for the day (2 each student). two were on the fourth floor, the rest on the third. no one was taking the 4th floor pts, so i took them. i was relieved that my teacher will probably put herself with the other two students, and i won't have to interact with her as much. tee hee. i'm soo sneaky sometimes.
the saddest part of my day was when i was doing the chart reviews for my pts. both were 51 yr old women (the same age as my mom). one was severely obese with liver failure due to alcoholism (cirrhosis) and lung dysfunction from smoking and weight problems. she was in restraints because she kept trying to get out of bed and has fallen several times. her son is 12. she kept telling me how everyone bitches and moans that she never gets up and does things, and now she wants to get up and they won't let her. she was very disoriented and it was a little unnerving to have someone try to talk you into loosening their restraints when it's obvious they aren't in the right frame of mind.
my other pt was a homeless woman who tested positive for opiates. she was a crack user with severe asthma. also a smoker. her heart was very erratic and i would get nervous when i'd give her a treatment because albuterol is a beta 2 agonist, it stimulates the heart to beat faster. she was a DNR, "do not resuscitate" if she codes. she was very cooperative and asked me to turn the tv to channel 8 so she could watch "the young and the restless". her treatment took some time (albuterol and atrovent), so we watched tv. i laughed most of the time at the stupidity of the characters. although i could see where some of them were coming from. this husband was pissed at his wife from trying to make all these arrangements for him while she leaves town (probably to have an affair..) he bellows, "i have epilepsy, damn it! i am not an invalid!"
got out of school a little early. took my cpu to best buy and ended up being able to fix it easily. i now have a long-ass orange cord running down the hall to my computer because apparently computers need their own power supply otherwise they might start shutting down for no reason. the guy from "the geek squad" was really nice and funny. i can't believe they actually have "a geek squad". i could see totu working there; top dog in his black slacks, white dress shirt, black tie, glasses and clipboard. three pens in shirt pocket. moleskiene in back pocket. bluetooth wedged firmly in ear. screg standing next to him in matching attire. snicker. they also have badges, poor bastards.
4 pm. off the clairmont (north sd) to pick-up orgasmic veggies from the co-op lotus signed up for. she is so thoughtful to let me pay the small difference between the small and large orders, but give me half the veggies. she was out of town yesterday. i was glad to pick them up. i had a nice talk with one of the other members about bringing loquats to the site when they are in season. (i have a loquat tree in my backyard that bears tons of 'em in the spring)
hmmm.. it was 4.45 pm and there was no way i was going to drive home in southbound traffic. hot fudge was going to at work until 7 and we decided to use one of her coupons and have dinner later. that gave me a couple hours to kill, so i went to the la jolla coves for some time to myself. (damn it! of all the times NOT to have my camera! oh well, next time.) i parked (wheels curbed) on a hill with a fairly steep incline and walked into this coffee shop right in front of me. chatted with the guy behind the counter and purchased some cheap rock candy lollipops for the kids (so i could use my credit card to purchase the coffee. don't you just love that?). a life guard was in there and we started talking about drowning victims. i asked about his experience with them. do they cough up a lot of h2o during resuscitation? what about laryngospasms? salt h2o victims dying hour later from the salt being in the lungs causing the body pull h2o into the lungs (osmosis) which will internally drown someone. fascinating. he said, "i just try to keep 'em alive! you guys get to fix 'em!"
he (jason) had 2 cups of coffee with him, and it dawned on that he's probably on duty. "oh, i'm sorry to be so chatty. do you have to go back to duty?" he said, "yeah. come along. let's walk."
we get to the lifeguard station and sit on a bench. i got to look through some high powered binoculars at the crazy people swimming in the icy water out to buoys far out and then back. birds in flight, the other side of the bay to torrey pines, and into the houses on the edges of the cliffs. people dining in a nearby restaurant, breaking waves.
a guy comes to the station and says that someone fell in one of the little caves and cut his head. one of the lifeguards takes a look and ends having to patch the guy (aaron) up and recommended that he get to a hospital for stitches. the guy's girlfriend (rachel) comes over to us about ten minutes later stressed out because she doesn't know how to drive stick shift to get him to the hosp and he's nauseous. so i offered to get them to a hospital (scripps la jolla) if she can give me directions.
the lifeguards decided to check him again and poor aaron with blood on his beatles t-shirt ended up needing an ambulance after all. his heart rate was low (40s. normal range is 60-100. unless, of couse, you normally run low). he couldn't tell us if he was normally bradycardic, so it had to be assumed he wasn't. the life guard was stressing about low blood pressure and for some reason, he decided to turn down the o2 they were giving him via a nonrebreather mask. the mask was fogging up, and i felt weird telling him (very nicely - i'm merely a student, ya know) that i think he should turn it up because aaron was going to start retaining his co2 and would pass out. he also needs more o2, not less, if his heart rate is low because his heart isn't really in the mood to work right now, and he won't get the o2 he needs pumped to his tissues fast enough, therefore he should be saturated with o2. it was kinda neat that he listened to me.
the medics (usually an unruly bunch of people, i've noticed) showed up and got aaron (who just wanted to show off to his girl by prancing around on slippery rocks and ended up gashing his head open on a barnacle (Fuck! now she's really going to think i'm an idiot!!)) into the ambulance and off to the hospital.
i gave rachel a ride to aaron's car and she drove my automatic van to the hosp with me in his car driving stick following. it was a longish drive and so i listened to the rest of an audio book in the tape player (which sucked) and some of the radio stations. one tv station and mostly alternative type music.
rachel and i made it in one (actually two) piece(s) to the ER. she gave me a huge hug (big feat for such a little woman :)) and thanked me profusely.
rachel said while a warm smile, "there really are good people still left in the world..."
i drove off giggling, hoping that she will still think that after they discover that i'd changed all the preset radio stations to mexican music and hip-hop...

YAY!!
it was terrifying. i hope i never have to do it again. i'd rather give birth to a baby backwards. i had to call all of
- 3 diferent stores (only one even answered)
- compaq (who i guess is really hp...) who quoted me 250 to fix it. and then changed it to 69 when i said hell no...
- totu (infinity +1 times)
- ronin (didn't leave message) 1x
- ex-husband because i didn't know how to spell "fry's" ( was looking it up in the white pages under "fries". AND they were not in my yellow pages because they are in noprthern sd and i am not, and for some reason, i think the phone co. thinks that i will never ever need to go to the north part of sd, so they only give me the south sd yellow pages...
- my brother's ex-girlfriend 2x

wisdom in twilight
there are some people out there one simply cannot help. all we can do is be their cheerleaders, and hope that they pull out of it on their own.
i have a (possibly unnatural) fear of my kids and water. sometimes i think it is with good reason, other times i think i'm just an over reactive mama.
i had to call my neighbor who lives 2 doors down from me to get his address so i could mail him a postcard... his answering machine message was in haiku; i laughed so hard, he finally picked up the phone as i snorted into the recording saying, "glad i could make you laugh today... want a copy?" daniel said, "mom, can't we just go there and drop it off?" totu said, "why can't you just go there and get the address from the house instead of calling?"
addictions are waaay harder to let go of than one thinks. and i'm not just talkin' 'bout smoking...
the closest entry i could find in last year's skinned mole was:
Mon. 08-15-05
on better track - got things done. pocket calendar proving to be incredibly useful. slept like all day. took kids to dentist. x4 having health ins. care is so nice.
then i didn't write for another month. man my shit can be really boring sometimes, but i'm glad i wrote it. it's kinda neat to look at the path behind me, twisting and winding and at times narrow wide straight and long.
besides, what better time to be productive? it's being the only one up in the middle of the night.. a big juicy secret. and everyone's sleeping except for the guy at the 7-11 who knows all the answers to everything unimportant.
now i never really got the whole "ungodly hour" thing. dictionary dot com says:
ungodly: outrageous; shocking; dreadful; insufferable: an ungodly roar; an ungodly hour to drop in.
now, i have to disagree with this definition. 4 am happens to be (i think) one of the most peaceful hours of the day. even the friggin' crickets are sleeping. right now it's 6 oh 2 am and the morning light is just beginning to seep into my room, and i can start to see the sweet little boy snoozing in my bed. he's drooling on my pillow and i don't mind one bit.
if anyone ever wants to come by at around 5 am and watch twilight come and pass over a cup of coffee, i would love the company. some mornings you won't be able to wake me; others, you'll show up and find me already outside.
huh... i guess that makes me predictably unpredictable...

"perhaps later on"s and the human factor
and happiness shall come a knockin'.
and never mind to investing one's time and heart
for into your lap it will fall. Plop!
hey! looky here!
i gots me everything i ever hoped for, and for FREE!
it was on sale last season, but i passed it up 'cuz i can't afford THAT!
i waited patiently and it rolled on my way all by itself.
post clearance rack!
perhaps later on things will be easier
perhaps they come together so smooth.
and oh joy to the grooves when life just gives.
why am i the only idiot that can't understand this?
were it so easy to crunch numbers and go.
patients are PEOPLE, dontcha know?
kindness and caring they scream and shout.
one must be gentle, without a doubt
so why is it that there is so much complaining
about oral cavities in dire need of maintaining
this is the part where i'd like to say
that my teacher is kind in every way
he's smart and funny, that's for sure
for his scowl and glare there is no cure

jinx! knock on wood!
i have a new very friendly 84 yr old neighbor, "kenny", who has been married 5 times (two divorces, 2 deaths, 1 current) and blatantly flirts with me. thank goodness for friends who "drop in" all the way from LA...
read canine's post about brazilian waxes, and i have to say, that sounds a lot like my first wax... the other estheticians said they could hear "kind of like a guy screaming" from my room. (i can't scream like a girl - it's more like a holler) i remember calling lotus and saying something like, "that bitch ripped some of my pussy off!!" hhhmmmm... it's about time i got another one done.. can't see the forest through the trees...
clinicals have been temporarily postponed. don't get me started on the incompetence of my school...

a little concerned...
i just came across a site that startled me... a 9 yr old girl who not only posted a picture of herself on the internet, she also gave out the city she lives in and what schools she goes to. i posted an anonymous comment telling her that she should at the least delete this information, but who knows, she might not do anything.
it also occured to me that it might be some sort of sting-op thingy, gov't forces trying to catch pervs, but regardless, i flagged her site.
i asked another blogger friend to also do this, and if anyone would like to flag her site, please email me and i'll send you her url site info... i don't want to post it here for obvious reasons.
thanks
it's my gig...
we later spent some time with another friend, "two buck chuck". i think the glasses are real crystal. they resonate longer than regular glass when i tinged them. (i think). the neighbor in between us hates our evening conversations, and on some level, i understand. however, if my neighbors were yapping all night about the oddest things and the girl snorted when she laughed, i'd either listen in or ask to join the conversation. he yelled at my dogs to shut up when they barked at a passerby the other day.
these past two weeks:
- i had a spider monkey climb into my lap and make herself totally comfortable. i wasn't so afraid of the monkey as i was of getting scratched or something and not being able to go to clinicals next week because i've developed some sort of monkey infection. yeah, i know i've got a little paranoia thingy goin on. it's always been there.
- i saw a box filled with about 40 lbs (that's 18.1436948 kilograms for you, totu!) of dead bees and their hives. yes i did say hives. it was pretty freaky.
- pics of a guy i know with a really bad staph infection. shivers...
- donated blood. it was neat. the shirt was cool, but the donut was stale. applejuice tasted like elementary school juice from those cardboard containers that have been adding cardboard flavor to the juice as it sat around and warmed to room temp.
- had shots updated and more blood drawn (school requirements)
- finished the (hopefully) hardest class of my schooling (at least in resp therapy). thanks all who called rearding the equation.
- dreamt about smoking at least twice that i can remember.
- vaccuumed my dog.
- hit 80 (sun god!) level on one of my all time favorite games, zuma in 39 minutes.
- shaved both the boys' heads. sir yes sir!
- had to buy socks for donovan in the men's section. it's always weird when i realize he's so... big. recently someone didn't believe he was my son or that he is almost 12. yeesh...

two plus two is four, two plus two is four, two plus two...
here goes:
CaO2 = (Hb x SaO2 x 1.34) + (PaO2 x 0.003)
CaO2 is the content of arterial oxygen normal value: >20%
Hb is hemoglobin, measured in g/dL. norm levels: women: 12-14 g/dL men: 14-16 g/dL
SaO2 is proportion of available Hb actually carrying O2. expressed in %. normal : >95%
1.34 is a constant for the amount of mL of O2 each gram of Hb can carry.
hey! it's thanksgiving!
- two huge bags of the most adorable clothes left for me on my porch this weekend for leily. they are just the right size and she can't wait to put on a fashion show tomorrow. thank you very much canine it was very thoughtful of you. i have decided to return the favor by passing down to your husband donovan's outgrown clothes, hee hee. does bert wear a size 10 shoe?
- a bag of home grown squash left for me on my porch by my neighbor. they are beautiful.
- uncle john who drove all the way down from hemet just to put together my shed. d4 said she missed him last week, and so we called him, and then him and i got to talking - this sucks, that sucks, this is good, that is better... then he says, "girl, i'm comin' down next week to get that shed up!" and he did. and it looks great. a kind family man. wish my dad had had some of his values. definitely not his virginian accent. somethin' kinda odd 'bout hearin' a asian girl wit-a country accent, dontcha' think?
- my son said he is going to practice being calm and finding peace rather than hating his father. i know how incredibly hard that is for him. took me years.
- new music. it brightens my days (children's playlists), energizes me (kickass playlists), and releases my saddness (misery playlists). thank you all who have given me your music. newest most-played song is called "cherry blossom girl". sultry. sad. uplifting in a bittersweet way.
- my sister who has been watching my kids every wed. from 7.30 am to 2.15 pm. along with her three kids. she is so loving and sweet to them. it warms my heart to hear them say, "but mama! we just got here! we haven't even played yet!" when i arrive to pick them up.
- my mom who watches the kids every thurs, same hrs. much more strict than auntie mayo, but so far so good. she is determined to help me get through school , and i am forever grateful.
- good friend who truly believes in giving just to give. thank you lotus. big mama and her brood will make very good use of the computer.
- someone who let me help him organize his life a little. i hope he makes it to the goodwill before all that crap in the hallway makes its way back into his closets and drawers...

why i had children
why would i bring another after another after another child into this world when things were so obviously bad? how could i have done that? to myself? to my children?
it occured to me tonight that that question probably rings in everyone's mind, and i felt very troubled and very hurt. i've decided to make an attempt to explain myself to the best of my abilities, and perhaps answer this question to myself as well..
what was i thinking? why did i have children, and four at that??
i have spent some brain time on this, and it comes down to something rather simple:
i had no business having children in the first place.
with that in mind, i guess any explanation (that probably sounds a lot like pathetic excuses to most) doesn't really matter.
i was very young when i started having sex. at some point i met an older man (7 yrs). at the time, i thought he was the best thing i'd ever find. he drove me places, bought me cigarrettes, lunch, drew pictures (he was actually pretty good) for me.
i never thought much about being good at school. college, for what ever reason, seemed "not worth it"... not worth what, i have no clue, i just remember thinking it "would be too hard". i always wanted a baby. a family. i thought it might be nice to have that with this man.
sometimes we could really laugh, and i honestly thought he loved me very much. things were not really "that bad" when we dated, it wasn't until we had the first that i realized it was going to be rough.
i remember his sister being 7 months ahead of me during my first pregancy. i was so excited that i was now part of a growing family (his brother's wife was also 2 months behind me), dysfunctional though it was. mom-in-law fretted over my pregnancy where my mother asked who the father was and suggested i abort, knowing my views on abortion: if you don't think you'd keep the kid, don't fuck them. even during my times of unsafe sex with different partners, i knew that if i ever became pregnant, i'd keep the child - it was my responsibility, my choice to have had sex, my fault for being in that situation.
my x fell completely in love with D1. at eighteen, i thought life would only get better. sure, we were struggling financially... lived at mom-in-law's, had to do apartment managing to make ends meet. but isn't this what life is made of? livin' off the fat o' the land? finding happiness even though i had to shop thrift stores, apply for medical and WIC, and drive a piece of shit car?
i have to say, sometimes i think the very giggle of my son made me want to have SEVEN more. all at once, he was so precious.
nothing else really mattered. i just wanted to be happy. as a family. we wanted more kids. we both blamed a lot of our stress and fighting on finances, school/workload, and whatever external forces we could. i think too many people do that.
D2, D3, and D4 all arrived as my marriage went through numerous mountains and valleys. why didn't i leave sooner? well, for one, i never thought i'd make it one my own. and if i hadn't done the real estate that i did, i wouldn't have made it at all. my friend just found out that she's going to get 1K in child support monthly, and that's WITH her having the kids 66% of the time. she has no job, and no skills. sounds like me.
for two: i reallly hoped that things would work out between us. i had a hard time a) fathoming that he really got off on mind-fucking me, and b) that he actually did it consistently. i thought i had seroius mental problems (sometimes still do) and that most of our marital problems were based off of my shit.
does that make it ok that i had more kids? no.
i could go on about the would've could've should've of it all, but does it really matter? as it is, i can't sleep some nights thinking about bringing four little people into a world where mom is a nutjob, and dad is cruel and spiteful to anyone who crosses him. did i mention lazy too? him i mean...
i believe that i am in a place where i have a very small opportunity to "make it up" to my kids. i don't think there really is such a thing, but perhaps decrease the damage just a bit. it is all i have to offer.
i think that maybe i wanted to be a part of something big. something special. i remember feeling so gifted when i'd find out i was pregnant. maybe i could be part of raising a happy person who in turn could help others be happy too.
i sound like such a hippie...
and, you know? i feel so grateful for the people in my life who love me and my children unconditionally. i try to give that same love, or at least something close to it, because there isn't REALLY unconditional love, just things darn tootin' close. hard to find stuff, it is. gotta look hard.
and i hope (funny, was recently told i need to strike that word from my vocabulary) that some day i will find someone who think my kids are the shit, and he will think i am an amazing crazy-ass woman to have had four. he will not think about what on earth possessed me to make such a blunder in my life, and how that is going to hinder on our otherwise-perfect relationship, but rather how the hell can he secure a place for himself in it. (he's probably thinking of me RIGHT NOW in a mental hospital somewhere).
i understand that i'm probably never going to find someone who wants to be part of a family of 5. and if i do, he's gonna have to be a little nutty. whatever. i gotta be mommy before anything else, regardless if i shouldn't have could'nt have would'nt have in the first place....

greasy grimy gopher guts
when i used to talk to my mother's 2nd ex, (he was the one who raised us kids) i'd call him "dad" and my "bio dad" my "father"... then came my "stepdad", who's barely older than you'69ers who we all call grandpa (shares the same name as mr.x). he is more like a big brother to me, but has also given me more insight into life over the years than my other dads combined. i almost called him today to say "happy D day", but decided against it since mother has a way of blowing EVERYTHING out of proportion... (yeah, yeah, now y'all know where i get it from)
having grown up with an asshole of a stepdad, getting the best "fatherly" advice of my life from a guy only nine years older than me, and bio dad missing during my most important years (aka "childhood"), i am happy to say that i am grateful for all the good men in my life. from the past and the ones in my present. Among some of them are:
- the gay friend who told me that men are nothing but trouble,
- the stranger who paid for my gas when i had no money on me and had filled my tank (it was approx. $17) thinking i had cash; he said to just take good care of my baby (i was 8 mos along with D1).
- an old man standing in line in front of me at an atm. i was huge (pregnant), and thought that life was a cruel setup for knuckleheads like me. big ol' crocodile tears were streaming down my face, and he turned around and said, "awww, baby. it can't all be that bad.. smile now. you'll be ok..." and i felt soo much better. fucker didn't let me cut him in line, though.. (that was a funny, btw.)
- grandpa who always told me i was so smart, and wouldn't it be nice if we could stop time just for a little bit so that we could spend some time alone together? and nobody could bother us, we could tinker in the workshop allll day. my first trip to a landfill was courtesy of gramps.. i thought it was so cool.
- an anesthesiologist named eric who was incredibly gentle with me when he hooked me up with an epidural during one of my more painful deliveries.
- dr sefa. never rushed my prenatal appts. apologized for missing the birth of D3 (it couldn't have been helped, she practically flew out!) never told me i was gaining too much weight or not getting enough exercise - would always instead ask what i was eating, how much exercise i was getting, and would gently give advice.
- my very dear guy friends who have been there for me during dark hours.
- sunny. who always looks at me when i am bustling about as if to say, 'mama, if i could help you , i would..." he tries so hard not to bark at strangers at the fence; he doesn't pee on my garden. crawls into bed with me when i cry.
- and my dearest baby boys. they have taught me so much about love and patience. d2 wipes the toilet down without being asked, and said he'd try not to wipe boogers on the wall next to his bed anymore. can't ask for much more than that out of a kid...

awww crap!
i love being in the days classes. today, a "yoke" was a "joke". we were using our books to find answers to some question packets that were passed out in class. i read a sentence that sounded sexual. i say to my friend:
"wow, this sentence sounds like it's describing some sort of sexual position.." my teacher's desk is right in front of mine, and he says, "WHAT?" and so i read,
"the DISS connection consists of an externally threaded body and a mated nipple with a nut. As the two parts are joined, the shoulders of the nipple and the bores of the body mate, the union held together by a hand-tightened hex nut."
we all cracked up. someone was in dire need to get laid when they wrote that...
we are doing a class on medical gas therapy, and have to be able to calculate how much gas is in a container.my day instructor was talking about MDI's - metered dose inhalers (for asthma). he says to me, "aren't you the one who uses an MDI?" i say, "uh, no, that would be 'i got that'"... cheryl was the only one who thought it was funny because she transferred to days with me, and it was our little inside yoke, i mean joke.. ok, i guess you had to be there.
i was arguing a point (i turned out to be wrong, btw... utter humiliation is always good for the soul) with my morning instructor and he called me, "DUDE!" i said, "did you just call me 'dude'?"
yay! i got to donate a pint of blood after school! i didn't pass out, but got very lightheaded for about 3 or 4 minutes.
and in other news, i freaking can't stand evening classes. some of my old classmates i am still friends with, but this one annoying rosie perez sound-a-like is driving me crazy. she has become a full blown kiss-ass to our teacher, and bad-mouths our clinical director every chance she gets. this teacher is actually leaving the school, and is more than happy to talk shit as well, which just bothers the crap out of me, it's so blatantly disrespectful of them both. anyhoo...
so the other thing i don't like about my new evening teacher who is leaving soon is that he really talks shit about RN's, or well, actually all nurses. and my sister is an LVN and i think she is very smart and incredibly thoughful and attentive to her patients. i do my best to keep my mouth shut, but it has a tendency to rattle off sometimes, as many of you know...
instructor bitches about this time he was doing a femoral stick on a patient who he thought knew what he was doing, but it turned out that she didn't speak english, she just kept nodding her head. so when he went to draw her blood she freaked out, and he ended up sticking himself with the needle after he had already used it on her. ends up in the emergency room, and gets chewed out by the doctor for being careless and then later by the nurses in ICU. and the says, "yeah, and they say that nurses are supposed to be nurturing!!"
then he starts going on about the time a nurse nearly tore his finger to pieces trying to get out a splinter... i say, "you mean to tell me you couldn't get a splinter out of your own finger?!" he says as he throws his arms up in the air and aims them to me, "now see?! she's a perfect candidate for nursing school!!"
we all start laughing and i'm trying to hide my annoyance because i just gotta get through 3 more weeks of this class, and then i don't have to hear shit about nurses anymore, and then "rosie" says, "gee, mulysa, i guess you're in the wrong field..."
i almost lost it. i think i have told several of you about this person. she is one the meanest, nastiest persons i have come across in a while. i said, "don't be such a kiss-ass, ok?"
"i got that" borrowed a cell phone from a classmate and made a call to a cab at 9:15, right in front of the class while the instructor was giving a demonstration on ET suction... it was also kind of an open discussion thingy, so he didn't realize what she was doing right behind him, and i couldn't stop laughing. he kept saying, "what? WHAT?! what am i doing that's so funny?!" which just cracked us up more. then she walks out of class and he says, "um... where is she going? i'm not done with class..."
i honestly was thinking about dropping this class and taking it when it gets offered again in several months, i hate being with my old cohort that much... cheryl says, "just 3 more weeks, just 3 more weeks..."

GIMMIE MY GRANDDAUGHTER!!!
funny. i just got off the phone with my mom. she has a friend in town from new mexico, and wants my 4 year old, i mean me and the kids, to come over saturday and visit.
i used to get REALLY upset by this type of favortism, but have learned a little patience. she adored and obsessed over all the grandbabies when they were little.
it'll soon be my baby niece's turn - i'm not looking forward to THAT jerry springer episode... the grandmothers loathe each other...

YAY!! i'm the smartest dummy!!
i just finished a science 101 class, aka respiratory care sciences. the book was more about the application of certain theories and gas laws, and provided hardly any explanation on the laws themselves, so every one was lost, including my other teacher. he decides to give us a "surprise" for our final last thursday...
i get to class at 6 pm and am told that we are not allowed to take the final until 9 pm because then everyone bails on the remainder of class, and the teachers get in trouble from the evil president... so everyone is sitting sround bored to death, and at 9 he tells everyone to take out a piece of paper and write down the grade they think they will get on the test. "be honest!" i put 92%
then he says, "have a good night!" "go home!"
"wtf?!" aw, hell no i did not study for this test so i skip it! fuck that!
i say, "did you even make up a test?"
he says, "yeah, do you have any idea how many people would have failed my test if i gave it tonight?"
i say, "gimme the test." he throws his hands up.
so i waited for everyone to leave and took the test. it was funny, he complained about how he tried to be nice, and i'm never happy. he even said that he was going to scrap my grade and give me the score i get on the test, even if i fail it. i said that sounded like a good idea, because at least then i will have earned it. we had a good laugh over the scores everyone gave themselves..
i'm pretty sure i got a 100%
in the process of switching to days...
my clinical director, who i usually have in the evenings, is now my teacher in days. i don't know how he manages to have a life - he probably doesn't. he is much more tolerable, almost even likable, during the days. one of my good friends/classmates switched to days with me and we are looking forward to finishing school maybe 3 months early. highlights of class include:
"jugular" spelled "yugular"
"vomit" and "vapor" are "womit" and "wapor"
Medical air (filtered atmospheric air) is stored in "jello" tanks... he said this and i at first thought that he said perhaps "cell" or "gel" tanks? WTF? i look at my friend and she was watching me and busting up because she knew i'd get lost.
"did he just say 'jello' tanks?"
"no.. 'yellow' tanks..."
maintaining composure is something of a challenge when one is sitting in the front row, middle seat...
CO2 (carbon dioxide) is : "used for singulation, to dilate cerebral vessels (pronounced 'bessels') and in ECMO"...
CO2 is also: "produced by heating limestone in contact with water"... um, wouldn't it make more sense to heat the water and then make contact with the limestone? he was reading the powerpoint slideshow to us, and when he got to this factoid, i said,
"you know, in case we're ever out in the woods and need some carbon dioxide or something..."
could somebody PLEASE PLEASE give us some useless information in case our itty bitty brains aren't overloaded as it is?!
each class is started with a pep talk of some sort, and yesterday he was going on (for an hour, i kid you not...) about how if you have a felony on your record, you will not be able to get your rt certification. if you have a misdemeanor, you will have to get a renewable license monthly for about a year.
this guy in the back says, "ummm, what if you like got a misdemeanor when you were a juvenile? does that count?"
sigh...
speaking of yesterday's pep talk, some classmates were asking about hiring and job placement stuff. my teacher says that he works (when, i have no idea...) at scripps mercy hospital in chula vista. then he says that he recently placed 3 rt's, over there because they were these amazing students, etc, etc... then he says that he doesn't have a lot of boys at that hospital, it's just that these three students were very good, etc..
i say to my friend, "what did he just say?! he doesn't have a lot of boys at scripps? what does that have to to with anything?!"
she giggles, "voice, melissa, voice... he doesn't have a lot of voice at scripps..."
"i heard that," i say.
"bullshit!"
lows:
- unfortunately my financial status is looking like i won't be able to take some time off from school next year and take a vacation with my kids. i was also hoping to go to europe again and see my old hood, if it still exists.
- eating habits have been horrible lately. i have grown very lazy when i don't have the baby goats and pretty much eat only prepackaged food. good thing is, i have a whole new perspective on single people and all my single friends can now look forward to not having to listen to me bitch about how they can/should be eating healthy..
highs:
- maintaining a 3.94 gpa. (see title of post)
- helped a friend find a new, bigger place to move into. she's really excited.
- can't wait to be going to days. i miss the monsters. they make life so much fun. i took D2 to baseball practice today, and he called me back to him for a kiss goodbye.
- the boys love their new venus flytraps, the girls have been helping me grow a garden with green onions, rosemary, basil, and strawberries (of course!)

i'm so very, terribly, incredibly sorry...
it took me at least ten minutes or more to pick a card for her. a coworker of hers has lost a loved one, and she needed a sympathy card.
"ok, so not more than 10 words!"
"basic message!"
these were my instructions.
simple, right?
ah. not quite. i stood in front of the deepest sympathies section for the longest time, and then started pulling cards out.
from both of us? oohh, i dunno. did she want to include shogun?
um, this card seems ok, but it looks like a money envelope. did they want to send a check?
damn. it was getting more and more complicated. i found myself counting the words, sizing up the giant flowers pictured on the front of the cards - is the font too gushy??
too religious
too personal
too expressive
too condescending (yes, believe it!)
sigh. i know i could've just called her, but once in a (long) while i like to be a big girl...
i can't even remember which one i ended up with, but i do remember that i settled on something plainish and hurried to the checkout in a light sweat. when i got to my car, i lit up and laughed.

the bitch in me...
so. tonight, in class, i was getting frustrated with the way my teacher was presenting material to the class. we were going over ekg's, and no one seemed to be understanding a lot of the terminology and descriptions of the many arrythmia's (abnormal heart rhythms) of the heart.
i asked a question regarding palpatations; where they originate from, why they happen, how stress related are they, and then my teacher starts describing the cause and effects of palpatations and tachycardia... 'i got that!' says, "hey! i had that just this weekend! and it took about 20 minutes before they went away!" my teacher keeps talking like she didn't say anything and everyone seemed to inwardly groan...
i then went on a 30 min dinner break and had a sad and depressing conversation with a friend of mine. suddenly the pessimist about life, the universe and everything, i dragged my feet back to class about 10 minutes late.
we get further into lecture about different causes of dyspnea (subjective complaint of shortness of breath as perceived by a patient...) . there are 3 causes, and the last one discussed was regarding metabolic causes of dyspnea. so i say, "cirrhosis of the liver?" "yes, but what else?" "renal (liver) failure?" "yes, yes, but c'mon guys? what else?"
silence...
"c'mon guys! this is going to be a very common condition you will see in the field... didn't you guys take 'cardiac anatomy and physiology'?"
silence...
i (finally) say, "i have no idea what you are talking about..."
he says, "hemoalkalosis!" or was it, "hemoglykosis"? i can't even remember what he said, i was so frustrated. he repeats the word again and then stares at us like little light bulbs would suddenly turn on over our stupid little heads...
silence...
i (finally (again)) say (sarcastically),
"oooooohhhh yeah! that's right!"
he stares at me and it obvious that he is not getting the sarcasm. i say, "that was a joke. we have never heard that term before, teacher."
"what?! never?!"
everyone starts blurting things out because it has been a problem with my cohort for a while now - we have on several occasions been short-changed on classes due to lack of teachers, and on one occasion, a very incompetent teacher that was pulled from our class halfway into the module.
then 'i got that!' gets up and begins to cross the room. every night she gets up from her seat at exactly 9.15 pm to place a call for a cab to pick her up, even if it's in the middle of lecture. as she passes me she says, "yeah, i know the term.. i had -"
this is when i did my bad thing..
i interrupted her and irritably said,
"yeah, i'm sure you do. you've probably had that before, too..."
she continued walking and i don't know if she heard me or not. when she came back into the romm a few minutes later, she tried chatting with me as usual if i didn't say anything; perhaps she had heard me and it didn't sink in because she didn't get it; perhaps i hurt her feelings and she didn't want me to know...
either way i felt polly wolly crappy and feel like it was totally unjustified and ashamed that i let my inner bratty nastiness out.
if she really is loopy, she deserves a little more patience than i had to give tonight.
if she isn't, maybe she really wants attention and doesn't know how to get it any other way.
regardless, that was unkind on my part and i feel bad about it.
sigh...
highs for the day:
- i got several things done on my "things i really, really fucking don't want to do list" these things included: calling my cell phone company, my credit card company, my cable company, and my bank.
- sold a property to my broker. 2 down, 2 to go.
- actually got my schedule shifted to the day classes - i'll finish school 2-3 months earlier. yay!
lows for today:
- i was unkind.
- reminded someone i love very much that they really need to look within themselves more, and that friend didn't seem to really want to hear that.
- i think my scale is broken - it's like 5 lbs too high... then again, it MIGHT just be my big fat gut.
- threw a double bday party for the middles, D2 & D3, and the house looks like a blind man cleaned it...
today i was reminded to:
- put gas in my car after seeing 2 people carrying gas cans...
- lose weight when i stood on my scale...
- keep an extra roll of toilet paper closer to the toilet after getting stranded.
- keep my big mouth shut after depressing my friend.
- not trust my ex with money when he said, " yeah! i'm going to jamaica!" when handed a check with the proceeds of the sale of our property.

ya know....
my mom watched the kids tonight because mr.x had a birthday shindig at his place tonight and asked if i could get a babysitter.
i get home, and i'm VERY tired. i heat up a bowl of leftover vegetable soup i made and crack open a beer. mom lays on the couch and doesn't make room for me to sit, so i have to practically sit in front of her.
i haven't seen mom in a while (she was in okinawa for 6 wks), and the first thing she says is:
'what are you doing about D1's weight? you have to do something. he's getting too big. the diabetes problem with children in japan is getting bad.'
i say, 'well, mom, i'm trying to let him eat as much as he wants, but be careful about what he's eating... for the past two nights they've had vegetable soup for dinner, and i 'm also careful about their snacks..'
as if i hadn't said a thing, she starts telling me about some girl who slowly murdered her mother and documented it over the internet and a dad who killed his small child for no reason. then, she says how tired i look, but makes no effort to get off the couch and go so i can get some sleep. asked me about some of my friends and then about mr.x.
hee hee... then she goes on about how much food she ate in japan. hmmm the food was sooo good . i ate sooo much. it was soooo fresh...
i couldn't take it anymore. i say:
'damn. last night, i had a bean tostada for dinner, and i still have horrible gas...'
there is nothing in the world that motivate a person like another person's gas. my mom looked at me as if she couldn't believe she gave birth to me, and then got up shortly after. i followed her out of the house and lit a smoke and sat down on the front porch steps. said goodbye.
sigh. mama's a nut which makes me a nut...
and speaking of nuts, i have a transient neighbor, pam, who is creeping the hell out of me. she left (8!!) gold spray-painted wreaths on my porch out of the blue when i first moved in. i had no idea who did it - it was in the middle of the night. i assumed it was my other neighbors because they were having a yard sale that weekend.
nope. it was pam, who came over to my plave about a week later at 11 pm to tell me it was her and that i can make a lot of money dressing up wreaths and selling them.
it gets worse. one night, i was up very very late, and went out on the porch around 2 am for a smoke. go back out around 3 am and there's a PIZZA and a soda on the porch. and a bag of fake berries with a note written on the back of a receipt:
'hi, got these
at rummage sale
by seniors center
on f st!
you'll find
more goodies
love
pam
p.s.
you can cut
down size of vines'
i was so freaked out! and i was hella pissed at my dogs for not barking... then i got more freaked out that she must've been pretty quiet when she walked up the porch steps.
so. tonight i'm tired, and a little emotionally drained, and here she comes up the sidewalk, walkman blasting. i'm so glad i had sunny with me. she asked about my kids, and didn't seemed phased at my very obvious reluctance to answer. oh, did i get the pizzza? the pizza place puts WHOLE pizzas (can you believe it?!) out by "the back" (which, btw, i'm assuming is "the dumpster") and since she can't eat the whole thing, brought me one.
then she said that i need privacy in my windows and that she'll gladly hook up about 15 (!!!WTF!!!) spider plants off my porch beams. i say no thanks, i'm not into plants, so she says she'll get me ARTIFICIAL plants! she even began walking the front lawn and counting to herself to get an idea of how many plants will fit up there. i say no thanks, i'm fine. we start going back and forth before i just start saying, bye pam. ok, bye. yeah, bye now. goodbye.
do dee do do do dee do do

and i thought I was weird...
then there's nights when so much shit happens in one night, i wonder how 4 hrs could possibly be enough time for all that shit to happen... let's see:
tonight started off with this one VERY odd girl, who has earned the nickname, "i got that!". at almost any given lecture, she will blurt out, "i got that!" to the teacher. huh, let me think. tonight she claimed to have 2nd degree heart block - type one, in which there is some kind of blockage in the atria, and after x many regular beats, the heart skips a beat. she also said she has sinus bradycardia (slower than 60 beats/min). last week she said she missed class the day before because she had "pleural rubbing", which patients get with fairly severe pulmonary problems.
and with alll these medical problems, she has NOT passed a class in six months. i can't even begin to imagine what her school bill looks like...
and while i don't dislike her as a person, having her in my class, and i think they are starting to pass her even with failing grades, makes me a little concerned about the people who are going to be taking care of me when i need medical attention.
the weirdest thing is that she is also a lover of dolls. and i mean in a "whoa!" kinda way. she always has a doll in her backpack, and brought a catalog to school tonight to show off her doll. (her favorite one she keeps at home) these dolls are like 130 bucks each. one of my classmates asked her why she doesn't have a car (she takes a cab to and from school every night), and she said, "because then i'd have to get a carseat for my doll, and a stroller to take it to class in, and diapers for her and a change of clothes... OMG, if i'm ever in need of resp care, i would rather suffocate than have miss norman bates standing over me, sticking tubes in my nose and giving me meds!
uh, yeah... and then there was the time we were going over x-rays, and my teacher mentioned that the x-ray was of a woman's, who i think had a pneunothorax. "i got that!" says, "where are her breasts?"
i felt bad that she has to call a cab every night, and so i gave her a ride home, and she wouldn't let me take the freeway, and told me exactly what streets to turn down. i was going to take a main street because i thought it would be faster, and she insisted i not... when i got to her place, she got out, said, "see you later!" and shut the door.
for the most part, i like my class. crazy-ass rosie perez sound-a-like has quieted down (a little) and my arch nemesis doesn't get nosy about who got what grade anymore since she has become more of a b student.
on our break tonight i listened to the rant of a friend of mine who was saying that she thinks that the low self esteem of teenage girls is a serious problem, and that she should teach high school kids to smoke pot and masturbate instead of engaging in sex, because it just feels waay better. one of her points to teenage girls would be that they aren't going to get anything out of it because boys orgasm prematurely anyway, and they have no experience or desire to get the girl off. i almost choked on my salad several times...
another good friend was in need of help, of which i was happy to give; she said i'm going to heaven for sure. in my better spaces, i like to think i am already there. poor kid has a pinched nerve in her back and looked like a zombie with her eyes glazed over.
on friday i did my first shadowing. i followed one of my teachers around for a couple of hours at a hospital. it was unreal. i think everyone should go to a hospital and get a good look at all of the patients. it kind of woke something up inside me. made me think about what is truly important in life. how short and fragile our lives are. how so much depends on the decisions we make, what we think is important, where we place our values. balance for most of us is so difficult.
if i die tomorrow, will i be able to say that the time i've spent with my children, my friends, full of love and happiness? for the most part, yes.
my mother has breast cancer. i've done everything i can to get her to a hospital. i've totally spoken my mind, and while she does not get the care i wish for her, i can honestly say that i have said eveything i need to say to her, and listened to all that she has needed to say to me. with my mother, i am not necessarily happy with the way things have gone/are, but at peace. and the same goes for my sister. we will always be good friends. i love her very much.
i don't know if i'll ever have closure with my ex husband, but i think that in time, i might. we have been getting along well lately, and i think that he knows me well enough to understand that i do not have pure hatred for him and spite, although i find myself struggling with it sometimes...
i miss my two good friends in italy very much. i called hot fudge today to leave her a voicemail. i hope she finds it amusing.

sniffle, cough-cough, sniffle
i think i have "lotusitis"...
this is going to be my third post today and it's not even 2 pm...
"hey kettle!! you're black!!"
went to get coffee with a friend this morning, and told her loud and clear:
"these are what i want served at my funeral!!"
"damn girl! you mean at your wedding, right?"
"i am not getting married again! but i know for sure i'm dying! remember these."
"sometimes, mulysa, you crack me up..."
she was the one who cracked me up this morning, telling me the most hilarious story about the time she took a bag of frozen chicken and knocked out her ex, and then she literally kicked him in his ass until he was out of the doorway, which ended him up in the hospital for 2 days..
"um, yeah, i was an angry person way back then."
we talked about trying to instill values in our children as they grow (away) from us. she is worried about her 15 year old daughter becoming a follower in high school.
"i need to learn to let things go."
and i understood where she was coming from - we have no right to leash our young, to force them to be what we'd like them to be. it was interesting that i had read lotus' post about children not too long ago.
i told her that accepting that her daughter is her own unique person is the first step, and that she shouldn't punish her into doing the"right thing", but rather guide her.
"but it's so hard!"
"be strong, be patient, you can do it..."
gimme about 8 more years before she can say i was the pot calling the kettle black.
marching on
calling up screg and telling him that i had something very personal to share with him... it was something that was shocking, a terrible secret... can i trust him to please keep this secret?
(drum roll)
"i freaking hate moving!!"
this was a joke that i had been aching to pull since i first started moving. one day last month, i was moving boxes and boxes of stuff, and i suddenly remembered helping screge and hot fudge move. screg and i would be on a ramp, with a fridge or washer or couch on a dolley. halfway up the ramp, he'd exclaim, "Damn it!!" and i would (naturally, i presume) assume something was really wrong; the item being hauled was titling off the ramp? did he somehow break a limb or something? did he forget to remove a dead body out of the fridge? nope.
"OMG screg! what's wrong?! are you ok?"
"i hate moving! this sucks!"
(minor heart attack for me slowly subsides...)
hmmm, what else? finished moving out of old place. thought i would never ever get everything out. yes, totu, movers are good, even if for just the big items.
loquats are swollen and ripe. the kids are having a blast picking them. i just need to remind d2 to stop throwing them over the house and into the front yard.
i live within walking distance of fudruckers, and a really cool mexican resturant hot fudge suggested.
got my doggies with me and feel a lot safer with them here, although they suck at deterring lotus when she sneaks in the house.
started putting old picture negatives onto cd's... also started a flicker account. would put up a link if i knew how...
the kids are doing good. looking forward to this weekend them.
lows for march:
with the move and all of the stress it brought (brings! it's still a'comin'), i didn't do very good on a midterm and my gpa got knocked a little..
the management company for my old place totally ripped me off of my deposit... 860 bucks they are taking. yeah, i know.
had to give up my beloved freezer because it just won't fit in my new place. glad that it went to a really good home, even if the water over there is a little muddy.. :)
i was without phone, cable and internet services for a week...
didn't get to the gym once...
carreer choice of the month:
i'm not quite sure. friend of mine recently said that i missed my calling as a kindergarten teacher.. i have a feeling, though, that if i had become a kinder teacher, perhaps the same person would be telling me that i missed my calling as a professional hog tie-r person-cowgirl...
hmm, yeah, i think for last month my choice is going to have to be a jerry-springer-type talk show host.. lots of drama in march... wait 'til i post about a girl in my class who brings her doll to school... (i haven't done it yet, lotus, because i'm still waiting for her to bring her photo album back to school..)
i spied in march:
- a half shaven dog with a split toe.
- oragne lemons! yum! very nice neighbor guy who wears a tweed treachcoat with a "FUCK BUSH" pin on his lapel says me and the kids can pick as many lemons as we want.. and my corner house is a prime spot for a lemonade stand in the summer.
- missing staff at school. i think they are all aliens and are taking turns observing us.
- half my bed covered in paperwork
- fear, temptation, second-guessing, procrastination, and lonliness all rolled into one
- gold wreaths left on my doorstep by a strange old lady i met in the middle of the night while i was smoking outside.
- a missing ring
- a bad pitcher.. i'm so used to throwing the ball TO the other person, i hit my poor baby three times while we practiced batting.. he was quick to forgive and keep at it, the little trooper..
- a bad provider. i'm so disgusted by him and so sad when she says she should've listened to me.
- three candles that stood for one decade each
- a stand. i am ready to take it, although it's hard knowing i have to take it alone.

i'll never win...
song: "the beast will make off with your children in the night!"
D1: "did he just say the beast will make OUT with the children or make OFF with the children?!"
i hung my head and put my hand to my mouth to emphasize my shock that he would say such a thing, but it was really to hide the fit of giggles that was coming on.
of course the other two in the back, D2 and D3 didn't even try to refrain from rolling laughing. they laughed for a while about the joke, it gets quiet in the car, and then my 6 year old, D3 says,
"hey, what does "making out" mean?"
the boys couldn't stop busting up for the rest of the drive to school...

ahhh, a breath of fresh blog!
i have to put this down before i lose it completely.
i was in the store today, and was going to buy a carton of eggs. stop. wait a mintute. there are cage free eggs AND organic eggs. ummm. ok. i ask the worker next to me.
"um, excuse me, but what is the difference between cage free eggs and organic eggs besides the obvious?"
"?como?"
i point to the two different cartons.
"these eggs are free... they run around and are happy," i try to emphasize my point by flapping my arms and smiling really big. i wish i had taken a picture of her face...
"while these eggs are healthy but not necessarily free..." i then scrunch my body up to try to point out that while organic eggs might be hormone free, the chickens might very well be caged.
"oh!" she says, "these are free, and these not free. not caged."
"no, these are caged, but not drugged, you know, hormones.."
"yes, i see. i don't know the difference." then she pulls aside a young guy that works in the meat department and starts asking him in spanish. he looks at me like i might be an escapee from a mental institution.
"i don't know the difference wither." he says flatly.
"um, never mind," i say. i'll uh just sleep on it tonight and maybe it'll be clear in the morning.
as i hurried down the nearest aisle, it took every ounce of willpower not to look back to see if they were watching me. i was kind of afraid that i'd see them pointing me out to a couple of guys in white uniforms carrying an "i-love-me" jacket...

Captains Log.
today is the second day of five that my crew and i will be living in close quarters before they are temporarily reassigned on another planet.
towards the end of the first twenty-four hour period, i began to suspect something alien was possibly affecting my crew. lieutenant worf, lieutenant geordi la forge, counselor deanna troi, and ensign ro have just returned from a field study in the chaos galaxy, also known as "dad's house"...
la forge and troi are both showing symptoms of some kind of illness... la forge is coughing heavily in the morning and troi seems to be easily overwhelmed with emotion for no reason whatsoever. this very morning, she claimed that she no longer wished to be part of my crew due to the fact that geordi didn't immediately respond to her request for harness assistance prior to hyperspace jump, even though she is well versed in the mechanics of seat-belt buckling...
lt. worf, usually unsocial, made a private request for personal time in two days. it appears that he would like to spend some time with some of his fellow mates from the academy, one of whom is to have a birthday celebration. while i trust in my officer's judgment completely, i am beginning to worry about him. he appears to be going through a chemical change that will most likely alter his common sense, an affliction known as "puberty" in some cultures... he is showing a greater interest in a particularly dangerous race of aliens, known as "females", and i fear for his future mental and emotional safety. some of my colleagues have given me advice to be patient and wait things out, keeping constant watch. i will make a note of it.
i was, however, taken aback by his additional request (or, perhaps, i should say, "insistence") to spend his monies on "any kind of horse present"...
ensign ro is fortunately fully recovered from a minor lip injury she acquired during a soccer match at preschool.
i must have a meeting with the president of the chaos galaxy regarding his management of my crew during their time there.
while i know that the next three days are supposed to be for holiday, i cannot help but feel overwhelmed by the insistence of two planets in different solar systems demanding my presence, and several of my colleagues insisting that i host a study group aboard my ship. all of the events are scheduled to overlap each other somehow, with one of them leaving me to find a substitute captain to watch my ship and crew.
and for the third night in a row, i am going to be piloting on only five hours of sleep a night.
i have been consuming entirely too much grey earl, but cannot seem to get through the day without it. this very evening i had an uncontrollable laughing fit during a conference due to lack of sleep... at least the schedules aren't filled with any potlucks - the food replicator isn't in the mood to cook anything at the moment...

c'mon! catch up!
i talked with my sister last night. we talked for three hours and it was so much fun. i realize how much i've missed our long conversations. i haven't laughed so hard in perhaps months.
sigh. my sister. she has a new baby (2 months). every time mayo would stop walking, she would start crying. i almost miss it... almost.
my sister's name is melanie, and when she was born i started calling her mayo, instead of mel, because i was only 13 months older. it's so weird for her to give me advice because for most of our lives, i have been the stronger one, taking care of her emotionally, sometimes even financially. tonight she gave me a lot of insight into my education, because she just finished school herself and is now an LVN (licensed vocational nurse). i am very proud of her. she was telling me the funniest story about her ex husband and i laughed so hard i had trouble breathing. she said to me, "i miss the sound of you laughing so hard. i've always loved to hear you laugh." when i talk to mayo, it's like i'm kinda talking to myself. she is a little less intense than i am, softer spoken, slightly less opinionated, but the quirks are there.
so, her ex was heavily into drugs, and controlled their monies, which is why she ended up having to declare bankruptcy by the time she was 26 (go figure, he worked for a bank). her cheated on her and was also an alcoholic. when she left him, she quickly got into another relationship, which drove him nuts. he now has no job, and has only given her fifty dollars in child support for the past year. this came into the conversation because i was groaning about my ex not really being there for me as i struggle through this time in school. anyway, the funny thing was that she semi seriously explained to me that she is totally ok with him not paying anything; her and her boyfriend have decided not to take him to court because "we figure as long as we leave him alone, he won't kill us..."
i was rolling! i said, "so what are you going to do if he comes over one day to offer money? answer the door in a bullet-proof vest?!"
so silly. mayo goes snooping in her girls' (ages 7 & 9) diaries every so often. she said the oldest wrote, "i like going to daddy's house because he lets me listen to sexy music. but my mom won't let me listen to that crap!" and referred to a boy at school as an "ass clown"... we laughed so much!
we both agreed that we take things too personally in life and that wouldn't it be nice if we could change the world?
we talked about my brother who(m? i still haven't gotten that one down!) i haven't spoken to since christmas day.
it was nice to play catch up with my sister. i think i'll go see her today.
back from the twilight zone...
i have been soo busy. the only time i seem to have lately is to quickly go over my friends' blogs and i'm sorry that i haven't even had the time to comment. but it is nice to get an idea of what everyone is up to.
and me? let's see...
around the time i last posted i stared my second core class in my RT (respiratory therapy) program. it was cardiac and renal (kidney) anatomy and physiology. totally busted my balls. this has been my first long break in a while, so hopefully i can catch up on my blogging and comments. :)
took the final last night and i did really good, i was excited.
my lease for the house i'm in right now is up at the end of march and i have to sign another one year lease if i'm going to stay, so i've decided to move to a smaller, cheaper place. finally found one and i really like to homeowner so far. the back yard is more inviting, and i think the kids will be happy. the ex and i are going to sell our other home, and hopefully by the time we settle our property division, i will be able to support myself through school without having to work, so i can study and take care of my babies.
going through some awkward stuff with the ex, trying to be friends, or at least, friendly, to each other is going to only be temporary, i think. he doesn't seem to be able to handle getting along with me and not flirting with me whenever he can. i'm sure that will come to a screeching halt when i take him to court for child support. he seems to think that paying for my share of the cell phone means he doesn't owe me anything.
D3 said to me today, "mom, you smell so pretty. you smell like vanilla.." i was really surprised that he could tell what body spray i was wearing, since i hardly wear my spray, and then i remembered that last week, he went to the bathroom and it was stinky, so he decided to spray the bathroom down with my vanilla body spray. it was so much i had a sneezing fit. cute.
went to brunch with hot fudge and ronin today and then we went to the new place to check it out. my new landlord gave me the keys today instead of march 1st, and it was such a nice gesture. i feel so inspired when people reach out to me or others with simple kindness. she met my ex, and after he left, she looked so sad and said that he seems like such a nice person. i told her that i hope he is a better person now and will make someone else happy in the ways he couldn't make me.
last night i saw little sis' (totu's sis is 1 yr younger than me) and we had a nice talk. i was buzzing from my final (yay! 100%) and yet went through this weird saddness after it was over. i got to thinking about having kids so young, and wouldn't it have been nice if i had the sense years ago to go to school. i realy like science, and wish i had gotten my phd in chemistry or physics. she countered by saying that then i wouldn't be the person i am now. good point, but i think the main thing was that was bothering me was that giving up on school would've been worth it if i had been happily married and etc, etc.
the good thing is that now i feel like all these doors are opening up for me. i want to get my bachelor's, hopefully in RT, and maybe teach. i want to get back into real estate, and own a house out in the mountains, where i can go on vacation with the kids when we can. i want chickens. and the best part about wanting all of these things is that i think they are attainable.
for the most part, the drama in my life has slowed down, but most definitely not dissapated. i am open to the quite probable fact that it probably never will go away, and at the moment, that's ok. trying to keep an eye out for the next storm, because omg, when it rains, it pours.
a dear friend of mine shared some news that made me very happy. i am glad to think of her and watch her personal growth.
there is something about hot fudge that is so calming for me. after we went to see my new place after brunch, the two of us went through the house and tried to decide where everything will go. it was a wonderful help to be able to let her go through the place and help me figure things out. i don't feel very confident about my decorating/furniture placement abilities. she is truly a master. on my way home, i thought about how she gave me a couple of books that were about inspiring ourselves through being good to other people, and another book on amazing women. the neat thing was that when she gave them to me, she said, "i saw these books and i thought of you..." what a compliment. i was nice to hear that she thinks of me that way. i guess i won't egg her car this weekend after all...
smoking has been a bitch to let go of, and i try not to do it on my way to the gym when i have an appointment with my trainer. he pushes me extra hard when he smells smoke on me. last week i had a hard time sitting down on toilets and carrying my backpack was a little difficult. but fear not to this injustice, i occassionly cheat when i work out, and when he isn't looking at me because he's writing something down, i skip a sit up to two...

TO SUCK IS TO SEAL...
it all started many years ago. i would do laundry way into the wee hours of the night, and i would iron, fold, sort, etc.. all the laundry downstairs in the living room, so i could watch tv to keep me up. (i couldn't drink coffee much back then, because for about nine years, 1994 to 2003, i was either prego(with child, not the spaghetti sauce) or nursing)
i don't remember when i first saw the infomercial/program for the foodsaver, but i wasn't really intrigued until i had seen the whole demonstration over x amount of months because i could never manage to watch the entire program, since i was always going back and forth throughout the house. to the garage for loading clothes into and out of the washer and dryer. and then transporting folded or clothes on hangers to their appropriate rooms/drawers/closets.. or taking one of my youngin's to the bathroom or consoling a baby (whichever decided to wake up that night, and believe me, someone usually does, even to this day.), etc.
anyhoo, i loved the idea, but at the time, was under mucho financial and time constraints. several years later, i decided to get myself a gift and bought it at my local costco. have i ever mentioned that i love costco? you can return anything there and they will give you your money back. once i took back 2 dvd players that were over 2 years old, and they gave me my money back. it was cool. having the receipt helped, worn as it was... (bet no one thought that i was orgamized (yes, i spelled it wrong on poipose!) enough to have kept my receipts, huh? i'm just overflowing with surprises...)
So! i bought my precious foodsaver. only problem now was that it sat in my garage for about 2-3 months before i finally opened it up. and then it sat in my garage for about another 2-3 months because i couldn't find the time to thoroughly look it over. and i have another problem(s). even when i have the time to go over manuals, i rarely do because i have this thing with manuals. they are so boring, and difficult to read, and frustrating! i just want to know how to (basic) start the damn thing, and then, when i get comfortable with using it, i would love to know how to do all this other fancy schmancy crap! come ON!
ok, so, finally after having it sit around for 4-6 months, i finally took it out one day when i had a lot of RAW/RARE meat to store, i decided to take out my new(ish) foodsaver and try it out.
to this day, i have not fully read the manual, but am proud to say that i have skimmed through the instructions for the things that "apply" to me and pretty much know how to use it... and i love it! i've recently become obsessed with making my own trail mix and sealing it into packages for snacking purposes. i had the kids help me make trail mix and we also roasted almonds with honey and brown sugar, and another batch with maple syrup and cinnamon. they were so excited, they brought them to school to share with friends.
when corn was in season last year, i blanched some cobs of fresh sweet corn and vacuum sealed them with my foodsaver. for those of you who don't know what "blanching" means, it is when one scald veggies or fruits to stop the ripening process prior to freezing. this is much like the process that takes place in taking a piece of RAW meat and renaming it to RARE meat... ok, the outside of the item in question has been heated only briefly, changing the outer layer (that layer is singular, btw...) of the item, but the REST (99%) of the MEAT or veggie remains RAW. that means, if you want to eat it, you must properly cook it... (luv ya' screg!)
back to my story.. about 2 months later i took out the frozen corn and put the whole bag, sealed, into a pot of boiling water, and my oh my, was the corn sooo good. couldn't tell that it had been frozen at all.
i even used my foodsaver for my trip to europe. yeah, i have to admit, that this is a little silly, but i was so excited to use my foodsaver to make myself a homemade tube of toothpaste. totu found it rather amusing and mentioned that i could've bought the same thing at a store and wouldn't have had to have gone through the trouble of making my own toothpaste thingy. that wasn't the point! the point was that i had the option, the power of making my own toothpaste thingy on my own! i even cut a little snip on the side of the plastic so that when i needed to, i could simply tear off the plastic tip...
i love my foodsaver, my foodsaver loves me.

Good Fracking Morning!!
did i also mention that i think i'm pmsing?
that or suffering from css: current situational syndrome...
i just typed a bunch of stuff about how awful my week is starting out, which included sleeping last night with my front door unlocked (rapists and murders, c'mon down!! the price is right! it's free!!), but decided to delete it because it just went on and on and on and on and on......
