c'mon! catch up!

my goodness...

i talked with my sister last night. we talked for three hours and it was so much fun. i realize how much i've missed our long conversations. i haven't laughed so hard in perhaps months.

sigh. my sister. she has a new baby (2 months). every time mayo would stop walking, she would start crying. i almost miss it... almost.

my sister's name is melanie, and when she was born i started calling her mayo, instead of mel, because i was only 13 months older. it's so weird for her to give me advice because for most of our lives, i have been the stronger one, taking care of her emotionally, sometimes even financially. tonight she gave me a lot of insight into my education, because she just finished school herself and is now an LVN (licensed vocational nurse). i am very proud of her. she was telling me the funniest story about her ex husband and i laughed so hard i had trouble breathing. she said to me, "i miss the sound of you laughing so hard. i've always loved to hear you laugh." when i talk to mayo, it's like i'm kinda talking to myself. she is a little less intense than i am, softer spoken, slightly less opinionated, but the quirks are there.

so, her ex was heavily into drugs, and controlled their monies, which is why she ended up having to declare bankruptcy by the time she was 26 (go figure, he worked for a bank). her cheated on her and was also an alcoholic. when she left him, she quickly got into another relationship, which drove him nuts. he now has no job, and has only given her fifty dollars in child support for the past year. this came into the conversation because i was groaning about my ex not really being there for me as i struggle through this time in school. anyway, the funny thing was that she semi seriously explained to me that she is totally ok with him not paying anything; her and her boyfriend have decided not to take him to court because "we figure as long as we leave him alone, he won't kill us..."

i was rolling! i said, "so what are you going to do if he comes over one day to offer money? answer the door in a bullet-proof vest?!"

so silly. mayo goes snooping in her girls' (ages 7 & 9) diaries every so often. she said the oldest wrote, "i like going to daddy's house because he lets me listen to sexy music. but my mom won't let me listen to that crap!" and referred to a boy at school as an "ass clown"... we laughed so much!

we both agreed that we take things too personally in life and that wouldn't it be nice if we could change the world?

we talked about my brother who(m? i still haven't gotten that one down!) i haven't spoken to since christmas day.

it was nice to play catch up with my sister. i think i'll go see her today.

I love the "ass clown" lable. I gotta add that to me repertoire.

Regarding who vs whom... let me see if I got this right.

Who is used where you would subsitute I, he, she, they, and we if you answered the question. Whom is used where you'd answer with "to" me, him, her, them, us. Basically it's a matter of subject personal pronoun versus indirect object personal pronoun.

Who came? {I, he, she, we, they} came.
To whom did you call? I called {me, him, her, us, them}

But I'm sure it's more complicated than this.
