this very morning, i was taking the monkeys to their zoos. i have a very extensive collection of kids' songs in my ipod (disney music, dragon tales, strawberry shortcake, etc...). we are listening to a song from the movie "Beauty and the Beast" called "the mob song" in which a character rallies the frightened village folk into storming the beasts' castle. so it went something like this:
song: "the beast will make off with your children in the night!"
D1: "did he just say the beast will make OUT with the children or make OFF with the children?!"
i hung my head and put my hand to my mouth to emphasize my shock that he would say such a thing, but it was really to hide the fit of giggles that was coming on.
of course the other two in the back, D2 and D3 didn't even try to refrain from rolling laughing. they laughed for a while about the joke, it gets quiet in the car, and then my 6 year old, D3 says,
"hey, what does "making out" mean?"
the boys couldn't stop busting up for the rest of the drive to school...

ahhh, a breath of fresh blog!
ha. long days that seem to stretch forever.
i have to put this down before i lose it completely.
i was in the store today, and was going to buy a carton of eggs. stop. wait a mintute. there are cage free eggs AND organic eggs. ummm. ok. i ask the worker next to me.
"um, excuse me, but what is the difference between cage free eggs and organic eggs besides the obvious?"
"?como?"
i point to the two different cartons.
"these eggs are free... they run around and are happy," i try to emphasize my point by flapping my arms and smiling really big. i wish i had taken a picture of her face...
"while these eggs are healthy but not necessarily free..." i then scrunch my body up to try to point out that while organic eggs might be hormone free, the chickens might very well be caged.
"oh!" she says, "these are free, and these not free. not caged."
"no, these are caged, but not drugged, you know, hormones.."
"yes, i see. i don't know the difference." then she pulls aside a young guy that works in the meat department and starts asking him in spanish. he looks at me like i might be an escapee from a mental institution.
"i don't know the difference wither." he says flatly.
"um, never mind," i say. i'll uh just sleep on it tonight and maybe it'll be clear in the morning.
as i hurried down the nearest aisle, it took every ounce of willpower not to look back to see if they were watching me. i was kind of afraid that i'd see them pointing me out to a couple of guys in white uniforms carrying an "i-love-me" jacket...
